16,000 signatures show massive community support for HVO Continuation Project

The Hunter Valley Operations Continuation Project (HVO) has received unprecedented levels of public support, with more than 16,000 people signing a Letter of Support for the Project now in its final stages of assessment by the NSW Government’s Independent Planning Commission (IPC).

This latest demonstration of support reinforces the more than 3,000 local submissions received by the IPC from the local community with 94 percent in favour of an approval. 

Local mayors and councils in the region are also in support, as are local MPs.

After six long years of detailed assessment involving multiple departments and agencies, the NSW Department of Planning declared the impacts of HVO could be managed consistent with NSW Government policies. There is therefore no valid reason why the Independent Planning Commission should not grant a workable approval for the project. 

The community has also spoken loudly and clearly to strongly back an approval, and is now anxiously awaiting an outcome.

It’s time to grant a workable approval for HVO, its workforce and for the Hunter region.
