2014 Exploration Forum Breaks Records
Exploration is clearly a hot topic in NSW, confirmed by a record number of attendees at the NSW Minerals Council’s annual Exploration Forum last week in Sydney.
The 2014 Exploration Forum, entitled ‘Beyond the Rocks – Compliance, Community and Environment’ focused on a variety of issues faced in our industry, and how we can best proceed to ensure the longevity of exploration success in NSW. The day included Mr Jock Laurie, NSW Land and Water Commissioner, delivering the keynote address as well as presentations from Kylie Hargreaves, Deputy Secretary, NSW Trade & Investment, and John Dengate from Twyfords.
Presented in partnership with NSW Trade and Investment, Division of Resources and Energy, the Forum followed Exploration in the House, where the latest studies by the Geological Survey of NSW were presented, including highlights from the New Frontiers initiative. This follows the announcement in the federal budget of the new Exploration Development Incentive to encourage investment in junior explorers.
Exploration is critical to both jobs and the economy of NSW, as it ensures a pipeline of future mining projects.
The popularity of this year’s Exploration Forum is a testament to the industry’s commitment to leading practice in compliance, community engagement and environmental management as we continually seek a better understanding of what are arguably some of the best geological deposits in the world.
We thank this year’s attendees for making the Exploration Forum a success and we hope to see an equally successful event again in 2015.
