Airspeed Aviation flying from strength to strength

Industry 12 March 2014

Airspeed Aviation is an Australian success story that highlights the importance of the mining industry to businesses right across NSW.

Having worked hard over four years to establish a strong business relationship with mining in NSW, Airspeed Aviation has grown from a sole trader with two pilots and two aircraft to one of the state’s leading air charter companies, employing up to ten pilots and operating a fleet of thirteen aircraft.

Chief Pilot Ben Wyndham is a pilot and flight instructor with over 20 years aviation experience and a longstanding connection with the mining industry.

“Serving the mining industry is a huge part of our business. Without the mining industry we would not be able to

employ local people, support local businesses and contribute to the Scone community,” he said.

Airspeed Aviation recently completed a 10-week FIFO contract for a leading Australian mining company, providing a tailored, cost-effective service for a specialist longwall move contract workforce of around 70 employees.

“The longwall move was completed over 320 hours and 92,000km – that’s more than twice around the earth!” said Mr Wyndham.

“This is just one example of how Airspeed Aviation benefits from a strong mining industry. I would particularly like to thank the pilots and engineers for a dispatch reliability of 92% and on-time performance of 97% over the duration of the wall move,” he added.

Airspeed Aviation is a fantastic example of how

mining in NSW is strongly supported by the thousands of firms that supply the resources industry – from legal and accounting services, to equipment and machinery manufacturers, labour hire, transport, engineering and construction.

Airspeed Aviation operates charter flights throughout NSW and Queensland from its Scone Base, including Sydney, Mudgee, Wollongong, Tamworth, Brisbane, Roma and Moranbah. Information on Airspeed Aviation and the services they offer can be found on their website or by calling (02) 6545 2069.
