Coal & Allied’s MTW team hits the streets of Singleton to meet supporters
Coal & Allied’s Mount Thorley Warkworth team were meeting members of the local community at Gowrie Street Mall in Singleton over the weekend.
They spoke to hundreds of locals, and got plenty of support from the local community for the Mount Thorley Warkworth project.
It’s been a long and difficult journey for the MTW workers and their families. NSW planning minister Rob Stokes proposed an amendment to the mining SEPP earlier this month, creating further anxiety about the PAC’s final decision despite the NSW Department of Planning and Environment recommending it be approved—for a second time—in May.
The SEPP change removes a provision that makes the economic importance of resources “the principal consideration”, putting thousands of jobs at risk, including those at MTW.
Community polling in June found that 67% of people surveyed in Singleton supported the continuation of Coal & Allied’s mining in the area, and that support was echoed in Gowrie Street Mall over the weekend with hundreds more people making positive submissions to the PAC at
