Comments close soon on proposed Newcastle coal terminal expansion

The opportunity to make submissions in support of the proposed T4 coal terminal at the Port of Newcastle is coming to a close. 

  The Port of Newcastle is the world’s largest export terminal, but as coal production increases along the Hunter Valley Coal Chain, the coal terminal will need expanded capacity to handle that increased production.   

Upon completion, Port Waratah Coal Services’ T4 will allow for up to an additional 120 million tonnes per annum of coal to be exported through the Port of Newcastle in support of the state’s biggest export industry. 

The first stage of the project would see the creation of infrastructure to facilitate another 70 million tonnes per annum of throughput. This part of the T4 project is currently on exhibition with the NSW Department of Planning, and is open for public comment until this Friday, November 22.    Public submissions are an important part of the assessment process, and will be taken into account when the Planning Assessment Commission considers the T4 project in early 2014.   Learn more about T4 at planningforfutureopportunity.com.au and have your say by making a submission with the Department of Planning before public comments close on November 22.
