Focus on compliance, community and environment at Exploration Forum

Compliance, community engagement and environmental management will be at the forefront of this year’s NSW Minerals Council Mining Exploration Forum.

 

The Forum, to be held at State Parliament on the 8th of May, will bring together explorers from across NSW for discussions on exploration issues facing the industry. 

 

Rachael Cronin, Deputy Director General – Mining and Energy Resources, of the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines, will deliver the keynote address to the Forum.

 

A panel discussion featuring NSW Land and Water Commissioner Jock Laurie, Company Principal, David Salim from Hetherington Exploration & Mining Title Services, and Principal Geologist, Mark Arundell, from IMEx Consulting, Deputy Secretary – Division of Resources and Geoscience, Kylie Hargreaves, will examine the approval process for exploration in NSW.

 

“The exploration sector is critical to the future success of mining in NSW, and the long term economic future of much of regional NSW. That’s why it’s so important to support exploration through events such as this,” NSW Minerals Council CEO Stephen Galilee said today.

 

“It’s an opportunity to develop a better understanding of the issues and identify how we can move forward together as a unified sector in  the best interests of NSW.” Mr Galilee said.

 

The 2017 Explorer of the Year Award will be presented by NSW Minister for Resources, Energy, Utilities and the Arts, The Hon. Don Harwin MLC. This year’s finalists include:

 

Peak Gold Mine for their Great Cobar gold and copper mine project project which has revitalized a site that’s over 100 years old.

 

Impact Minerals Limited for their Silica Hill gold and silver mine project that has a 100% safety record.

 

Heron Resources Limited for their G2 Lens expansion, one of the few high grade base metal developments in the country.
