NSW Minerals Council welcomes confirmation of State Government commitment on royalties

Industry 3 June 2019

“The NSW Minerals Council welcomes the NSW Government’s commitment today on mining royalties in the upcoming State Budget.

As reported in The Australian newspaper today, NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrotet has stated:

“We have no plans to increase mining royalties in the upcoming NSW budget.”

“While uncertainty has been created by changes related to mining royalties in some other states, we welcome the certainty created by this commitment from the NSW Treasurer in relation to NSW mining royalties,” NSW Minerals Council CEO Stephen Galilee said today.

Today’s announcement by the Treasurer is also consistent with written commitments received from the NSW Coalition Government and Labor Opposition prior to the recent NSW election.

The commitment received from the Coalition prior to the NSW election stated:

“There are no plans to increase mining royalties in the next term of Parliament. There are also no plans to increase industry fees and levies by more than CPI in the next term of Parliament.”

The NSW Labor Opposition also provided a similar commitment, stating:

“A Daley Government will not increase the rates at which mining royalties are levied.”
