NSWMC Welcomes 2030 Resources Taskforce

The NSW Minerals Council welcomes the Resources 2030 Taskforce announced today by Federal Minister for Resources and Northern Australia Senator Matt Canavan.

The Taskforce provides a valuable opportunity to build a coherent national policy framework to shape the future of our world-class mining sector.

The appointment of Whitehaven Coal’s CEO Paul Flynn to the Taskforce will help ensure it’s deliberations have strong input from the perspective of the NSW mining industry.

The NSW mining industry directly employs more than 40,000 people, injects $10.8 billion in direct spending into our economy, delivers nearly $19 billion in export revenue, and contributed $1.6 billion in royalties to NSW Government coffers last year.

“The NSW mining industry is vital to a strong NSW economy and to the strength of regional communities in particular. The announcement of the 2030 Resources Taskforce is a sign that the Turnbull Government is taking the contribution and potential of the Australian mining industry seriously.” NSW Minerals Council CEO Stephen Galilee said today.

“We look forward to contributing to the work of the Taskforce to help retain NSW’s status as world leaders in the mining industry.”
