Revised explorers’ handbook launched at Environment & Community Conference
The NSW Minerals Council is committed to providing strong leadership for the exploration sector, including the promotion of leading practice, NSW Minerals Council CEO Stephen Galilee said today at the launch of the revised handbook for NSW explorers.
NSW Minister for Resource and Energy Chris Hartcher launched the revised handbook at the NSW Minerals Council’s Environment & Community Conference in the Hunter Valley.
‘Exploration is critical to sustain jobs, investment and economic strength in NSW, and with the new Federal Coalition Government promising to introduce a new exploration incentive, this revised explorers’ handbook is a very timely and important resource for our NSW explorers,” Mr Galilee said.
‘Exploration is vital to keep NSW mining strong. It’s critical that mineral explorers get it right from the beginning. The

, will help our minerals explorers achieve this,” Minister Hartcher said.
Stephen Galilee said the revised benchmark document is a valuable reference and a practical guide to assist companies to understand their environmental and community responsibilities and promote and encourage leading practice.
‘Explorers have an important role in laying the foundation for our industry’s reputation,’ Mr Galilee said.
“Exploration in NSW can be challenging due to the proximity of mineral resources to existing populations and other land uses. Environmental excellence and social responsibility is critical to the industry’s social licence to operate in the community, as well as good business sense.
“While no set of guidelines can provide for every individual scenario, this handbook will serve as a valuable reference for explorers as they seek to follow environmental and social best practice.’
