Stefanie Loader elected Chair of the NSW Minerals Council

Industry 11 December 2014

“

CMOC-Northparkes Mines Managing Director Stefanie Loader has been elected as new Chair of the NSW Minerals Council, becoming the first woman to be hold the position.

“Stefanie Loader is an outstanding leader in the mining industry, a role model for women, and a highly regarded member of both the Parkes community and the Central West more broadly,” NSW Minerals Council CEO, Stephen Galilee said today.

“I look forward to working with her as we seek to address industry challenges and maximise opportunities for mining communities across the state.”

“Outgoing chairman David Moult from Centennial Coal has been a terrific industry leader and advocate over many years, particularly during the last two years while Chair of the NSW Minerals Council, so it’s great to see another strong and effective industry advocate appointed to this important role.”

Ms Loader says she is looking forward to adding to the positive conversations about mining in NSW.

‘My key priority will be to continue to tell the story of our mining communities and build on the good work that we’ve done to date in working together with and also educating the community. I want to continue to broaden the image of our industry, which we do by proactively telling the stories of the great people working in mining while also listening to our community and key stakeholders,’ Ms Loader said.

‘Coming from the metalliferous side of the business, I am looking forward to learning more about coal which is such an important part of our industry here in NSW. I’ve already spent time underground in the western coalfields and have been to see open cut mines in the Hunter Valley and will build on my understanding of the coal industry in the first half of 2015.

‘I’ve learned a lot from the outgoing Chairman, Centennial Coal Managing Director and CEO David Moult, and the other Board members at the NSW Minerals Council and am excited about getting stuck into this new role in the new year,” she said.

Mick Buffier, Group Executive of Coal Assets from Glencore, was elected Deputy Chair. Mick Buffier has over 30 years’ experience in the mining industry and his expertise in sustainable development and low emissions coal technology will be very beneficial in future planning for NSW Mining.
