Teacher recognised for commitment to teaching Science and Technology

Uncategorized 15 July 2014

A third year student with a passion for teaching science and technology is being announced as this year’s NSW Minerals Council Primary Education Award.

Maintaining a pipeline of highly skilled workers is critical to our industry. And that starts at school, which is why it’s so important our next generation of teachers, especially in the areas of science and technology, understand the job opportunities available for their students in the NSW mining industry.

In June 2014, the NSW Minerals Council awarded its annual prize to a Primary Education student at Australian Catholic University who has achieved excellence in the study of science and technology.

This year’s recipient, Rebecca Vernot, is currently in her third year of studies at the Australian Catholic University and she’s told us that she aspires to make a real difference to the lives of her students.

“It is essential that students are given opportunities to explore and understand the way our world works as they will one day be responsible for this planet and its resources. It is the responsibility of both teachers and parents to encourage and develop students’ natural curiosity about the world around us,” Rebecca said.

The NSW Minerals Council congratulates Rebecca for being recognised through the awards program and commends her commitment to education.
