Thousands of rallies underway across NSW today in support of the role of coal
“
Over 20,000 people are attending rallies in multiple locations across NSW today to support how NSW coal is delivering higher standards of living here and overseas while lowering global emissions.
The rallies are already underway and will be held in over 40 locations across NSW, including multiple location across the Hunter region, near Lithgow, Mudgee, Gunnedah and the Illawarra.
Those attending these rallies across NSW will show their support at mining operations by continuing to provide the high thermal quality coal that provides over 80 percent of NSW electricity.
They will also show their support by continuing to provide our coal exports that are helping other countries to provide stable and affordable electricity with lower emissions than coal from elsewhere.
Others will also show their support by providing metallurgical coal for the Port Kembla steelworks and for export to other countries to help them develop their economies too.
Smaller rallies will be held in over 7,000 businesses across NSW that are part of the NSW mining supply chain, where people will demonstrate their understanding of the wider contribution of mining to the economy.
There is not expected to be any chanting or protest signs at these rallies, which will instead feature the sounds of men and women working hard every day to provide jobs, electricity and higher living standards for the community.
These rallies will continue indefinitely – subject to shift rosters and trading hours.
