Voice for Mining Family Day’ back – 2 July 2017
“
A big day for rugby league and a big day for our miners
Rugby League fans will again be able to cheer on two great teams – the Newcastle Knights and NSW miners – at the popular Voice for Mining Family Day at McDonald Jones Stadium on July 2.
Thousands of miners and their families along with thousands more that work in mining-related businesses are expected to pack McDonald Jones Stadium for the Round 17 NRL clash with the Wests Tigers.
Fans and mining supporters can join the team in wearing bright orange at McDonald Jones Stadium where the Knights will play in their special high-vis replica miners jersey in support of the region’s miners and all the good things mining brings to NSW.
As former Hunter miner, Knights winger, Nathan Ross has a first hand understanding of how important mining is to the region.
“Having worked as an underground miner, I can tell you that mining is the beating heart of the Hunter and really important to thousands of families right up and down the Valley. That’s why this partnership with NSW Mining is really important to us. It brings together two things that are so significant to the people of the Hunter and NSW – rugby league and mining,” Nathan Ross said today.
“We’re calling on all our mining families and supporters of mining to wear orange and high-vis workwear to the game or grab a vest at the gate to show everyone just how important mining is to the Hunter,” Ross added.
NSW Minerals Council CEO Stephen Galilee said the Voice for Mining Family Day will again be a fun and positive event for the Hunter community, as well as a chance for miners, their families and the local community to show their support for the women and men that make up our local mining industry.
“The Knights and our miners are both integral to the local community and with commodity prices bouncing back and demand for NSW coal on the rise, we are hoping for a big show of support for our miners and mining communities right across NSW,” he said.
“A strong mining industry means a strong local economy and more jobs for local people and their families. So let’s show our support for the Newcastle Knights and our Hunter miners at Voice for Mining Family Day.”
