Voice for Mining Family Day celebrates a decade this Sunday
The Voice for Mining Family Day is back at McDonald Jones Stadium this Sunday, celebrating a ten year partnership between the Newcastle Knights and NSW Mining.
Over the last decade the Voice for Mining Family Day has become one a major community event that celebrates the contribution of our NSW mining families and the good things mining brings to NSW.
The NSW Minerals Council is a major sponsor of the Newcastle Knights men’s team in the NRL and the Knights women’s team in the WNRL.
This Sunday, mining families and Knights fans will get to see round 21 of the NRL and the first round of the new NRLW season in a massive double-header at McDonald Jones Stadium.
And to mark the 10th anniversary, the men’s team will wear a special anniversary edition of the now famous hi-vis mining jersey when they take on the Canberra Raiders.
NSW Minerals Council CEO Stephen Galilee said this partnership means so much to mining families and communities across NSW.
“The first Voice for Mining Family Day was held in 2013 and it has grown every year. Our mining families love seeing the Knights in the hi-vis jersey and they’re proud of what it represents,” he said.
“During the last decade tens of thousands of mine workers and Newcastle Knights fans have celebrated together at our annual Voice for Mining Day, and we are excited to see the team in the new hi-vis mining jersey to mark our ten-year partnership.”
Newcastle Knights CEO Philip Gardner said the NSW Minerals Council’s continued commitment to the club’s men’s and women’s teams cemented one of the strongest partnerships in the game.
“Mining is central to the prosperity of our region, vital to our state and a big part of our local Hunter community,” Mr Gardner said.
“As a major sponsor of our men’s team and a foundation sponsor of the women’s team, the NSW Minerals Council is integral to supporting our players, our administration and our community.”
