Wear hi-vis at the ‘Voice for Mining Family Day’ 10 April 2016
“
Knights fans and supporters of the Hunter’s hard-working miners are being encouraged to show their true colours and wear hi-vis to the Voice for Mining Family Day at Hunter Stadium this Sunday April 10.
Miners and their families along with thousands more that work in mining-related businesses can join the team in wearing bright orange at Hunter Stadium where the Knights will play in their special high-vis replica miners jersey in support of the region’s miners and all the good things mining brings to the Hunter and the state.
The Voice for Mining Family Day will see the Newcastle Knights take on the Wests Tigers and will again be a fun and positive event for the Hunter community to get involved in. And the first 4,000 people to arrive at the stadium will receive a free commemorative NSW Mining hi-vis vest to wear on the day.
“The Knights and our miners are both integral to the Hunter and with a federal election just around the corner, a big show of support for our miners is more important than ever,” NSW Minerals Council CEO, Stephen Galilee said today.
“A strong mining industry means a strong local economy and more jobs for local people and their families. So let’s show our support for the Newcastle Knights and our local miners with an ocean of hi-vis at the Voice for Mining Family Day.”
The Hunter’s coal miners share a strong connection with the Knights, with many past players and relatives of current players working in the region’s mining industry.
“This partnership with NSW Mining is really important to us. The mining industry is significant in the Hunter region, and rugby league is also really important to the people of the Hunter, so we think it’s a great fit,” Newcastle Knights CEO Matt Gidley said.
“Miners and supporters of mining can wear orange and high-vis workwear to the game to show everyone just how important mining is to the Hunter,” Gidley added.
