Westpac Rescue Helicopter to deliver game ball to Hunter Stadium

Fourth generation coal miner, Kirsty Spiteri, will grab a lift from the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to deliver the Voice for Mining Family Day game ball on 8 June when the Knights take on the Wests Tigers.

 

The will land in Hunter Stadium at halftime of the pre-game Holden Cup, where Kirsty and her father will deliver the game ball.  

 

Kirsty will toss the coin as 5,000 miners and League fans pack the stadium to cheer on two great teams – the Newcastle Knights and NSW miners. 

 

The Westpac Rescue Chopper, sponsored by the NSW Minerals Council, will land on the ground so fans can thank the Westpac Rescue staff and crews for the valuable work they do.

 

In 2012, NSW Mining extended its 30-year partnership with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, in recognition of the vital service the organisation provides for mining communities in the Hunter and New England North West.

 

“The Hunter is a tight knit community and sometimes our community needs the help of dedicated men and women like those from the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.  The Knights are proud to have them land at Hunter Stadium and have a fourth generation mining family deliver the game ball,” Newcastle Knights CEO, Matt Gidley, said today.

 

NSW Minerals Council CEO, Stephen Galilee said that the Hunter mining industry in particular owed a debt of gratitude to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.

 

“The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service has been in partnership with NSW Mining over thirty years.  This long-lasting partnership has stood the test of time because the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service and its dedicated staff are so valued by the whole community. We are proud to help keep the Service in our skies so that they can provide people in the Hunter, including our mining employees, help when they need it most,” Mr Galilee said.
