Yancoal’s Moolarben Coal modification approval good news for mining families
NSW Minerals Council welcomes the NSW Government’s approval of the modification to Yancoal’s Moolarben Coal Project, located 45km north-east of Mudgee.
The modifications will enable Moolarben to increase its coal extraction rates, improve efficiencies at the new underground mine and facilitate the sharing of infrastructure across the Moolarben complex. mining operations across the whole mine complex.
With the approval, a further 3.7 million tonnes of coal will be extracted from the underground project. This will enhance the maximum yearly extraction rate of the mine to 8 million tonnes of coal, an increase of 100%. In the entire life of the mine, 21 million tonnes of coal will be extracted, helping fuel the energy needs of NSW households and businesses.
Most importantly, the modification approval ensures job security for the mines 440 workers. Additionally, an extra 267 jobs will be added as a result of the new modification, bringing about further financial and economic stability for the region, and it’s mining families.
