We work with our member companies to campaign for important projects and policies that support a strong mining sector in NSW.
Mining is critical to the economy of NSW. Our sector provides NSW’s most valuable exports and around one quarter of total NSW exports by value. Over 40,000 people are directly employed in mining in NSW, and mining activity supports thousands more jobs indirectly in more than 7,000 mining supplier businesses across NSW.
Our mining companies directly spend around $10 billion in NSW each year, underpinning the economic strength of many regional communities, and we also provide the coal used to generate over 80 per cent of the electricity needs of NSW households and businesses.
